Why consume fungi as a dietary supplement?

  • Anti-ageing, both internally and externally. Mushrooms contain high anti-oxidant agents. Free radicals cause a loss of skin elasticity and wrinkles. The antioxidants found in mushrooms neutralize the free radicals and prevent further damage to our cells.

Lion's Mane and mushrooms like it can increase creative capacity and energy levels, serving as a nootropic (drugs that make you work smarter or promote relaxation, good mood, executive functions, boosting attention, memory and creative capacity in healthy individuals. The most commonly used nootropic in the world is caffeine, however caffeine can possess unpleasant side effects).

  • Boosts the immune system. Many species of fungi trigger Natural Killer cells in the body to operate at their optimum and multiply in concentration, significantly increasing lines of defence deadly against viruses, bacteria, toxins and other foreign substances. Furthermore, other compounds found in mushrooms activate B and T cells, aiding the acquired immune system as well as the innate.

  • Enhances cognitive function and prevents memory loss. Smart mushrooms like Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) stimulates the synthesis of NGF - Nerve Growth Factor in the brain. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and induces growth of new neurons in the brain. It can reduce the chances of neurological diseases like Alzheimer's, but it can also aid in preventing further deterioration in patient's who already have such conditions.

  • Favourable for weight loss. Mushrooms are low in carbohydrate content but host a powerhouse of vital micro-nutrients, proteins and amino acids. They are often high in vitamins B and D, contain iron, copper, magnesium, selenium and choline, giving the body critical nutrients keeping the body satiated for longer.

Edible Mushrooms Gourmet

  • In China and Japan, fungi have been cultivated for thousands of years, & continue to be popularly prescribed in medicine to treat many ailments. Historically ancient civilizations such as the Mayan, Mazatec and Egyptian cultures used fungi as part of their diet for mental and physical vitality, as well as in ritual. The Aztecs commonly consumed Cacao and entheogenic Mushrooms together. Whilst the cacao bean (from which chocolate is made) was coined 'Food of the Gods' the Aztecs referred to psilocybin mushrooms as teunamacatlth, which literally translates as 'God's Flesh', in the old tongue. They believed cacao and mushrooms to be a divine combination, both on the physical and spiritual plane. We involve non-psychoactive mushrooms and combine it with cacao in some of our recipes, to pay homage to and instil some nostalgia into our products.
